What should I expect when I come to a session?
You will be asked to fill out an intake/health history form that will help us understand your goal for the massage, your general health, specific injuries, whether you are under a doctors care, and what type of massage is appropriate for you. It is important to always update us before your treatments of any change in your medication or medical condition. We will work together before and during your treatment to achieve a safe, relaxing, muscular pain and tension reducing treatment.
Do I have to completely undress? Am I covered during the treatment?
No, you undress to your comfort level. Your underwear can be left on. In fact, for your Structural Energetic Therapy or Myofascial Release treatment, you will be asked to leave your underwear on, including your bra.
You are always covered with a sheet or towel and the only area of your body that is exposed is the area being worked on. For instance, your back, arm, or leg.
Will my massage hurt?
That depends on the type of massage and the depth of the technique. A Swedish based massage won’t hurt because the goal is relaxation during the treatment. A deeper based massage, such as sports or myofascial release, will help relieve chronically tight muscles and fascia and often has that "good hurt" feeling. A deep massage may leave some residual soreness the next day. If at any time you are uncomfortable with the pressure of the technique, we will "lighten up" or change a technique. You are always encouraged to tell us if something about your massage isn't working for you.
